There's more to flowers than just a pretty picture!

Whenever I have read the headlines "Looking for the Class of '72" in the local newspaper I have always felt rather envious. People meeting up after twenty odd years, being linked again to their youth. It has also made me feel rather sad that I have lost contact with so many people from that time. In fact it's not all bad. The one person I have kept in contact with over the years is Wendy Lacey (now Beaumont). Although Wendy lives many miles away from me in Huddersfield, we write fairly regularly and meet when we can. So it came as a very pleasant surprise when I met up with Paul in March this year to hear that he had met up recently with Mike & Rita Christmas and that they were already talking about a reunion for old Youth Club members. I'm very pleased that they have managed to locate so many people.

Paul has asked me to write something for the newsletter, so very briefly, I will fill you in with what I am doing now. For the past 12 years I have been living in Bradford-on-Avon (just 8 miles outside Bath). It's a lovely old Saxon town, full of lovely buildings and interesting people. It has often been called the 'watering hole for ageing hippies' which is probably why I feel so at home here! I live with Andrew, a freelance journalist / writer and our two children, Anna and Tim.

I have been working for the past seven years as an Aroma therapist and for just over a year as a Practitioner of the Bach Flower Remedies. Let me explain.  The Bach Flower Remedies are classified as one of the 'subtle' or 'vibrational' methods of healing. They don't act by the round-a-bout route via the physical body but at a more subtle level, directly influencing the energy system and creating harmony between the human Soul and Personality. Plants have been used for thousands of years for medicinal purposes but Bach makes a clear distinction between those plants which relieve symptoms and those that contain genuine healing power. All the plants used are non toxic and have no side effects and no incompatibility with other methods of treatment. It is a challenging job as many people are becoming disillusioned with conventional medicine and its side effects etc. and are looking for a more natural approach. I don't look upon my work as an alternative but complimentary, as it can work well alongside conventional medicine. I also massage babies with Cerebral Palsy and developmental delay. They respond well to the massage and I enjoy it as much as they do!  Just as a complete change from medical matters, I work for three mornings a week in a nursery school, It sounds a rather hectic week but it stops life from becoming dull!

For those of you who remember my Mum, she is also living in Bradford-on-Avon, just down the road from me. I think Paul intends this newsletter to reach you before Christmas so I wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year and look forward to meeting you all again in April.
